Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Two to three years food production experience in an institutional setting preferred
  • Able to read and write English
  • Basic math skills
  • Availability to work rotating shifts
  • Ability to work in kitchen environment with exposure to heat and noise
  • Ability to follow established recipes and food preparation procedures

Job Duties

  • Reviews menus and production schedules regularly to determine types and quantities of food items to prepare
  • Measures, weighs, and combines ingredients for quantitative preparation of hot and cold food items
  • Cooks regular and diet menu items according to established procedures and recipes
  • Ensures menu items are prepared timely and ready for assigned mealtimes
  • Monitors consumption and alters food production levels to avoid shortages or surpluses
  • Organizes and oversees work of Food Service Worker and Culinary Assistant
  • Inspects food storage areas and ensures proper food storage to prevent spoilage
  • Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, counters, utensils, and production areas
  • Monitors food inventories and requisitions food from storeroom as necessary
