Job Description

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous cooking experience preferred
  • Ability to work flexible hours including 24-hour on-call emergencies
  • Willingness to work in a hot and noisy kitchen environment
  • Ability to handle sharp tools and hot equipment safely
  • Must pass suitability screening for safety-sensitive position
  • Agreement to maintain residency preference if applicable

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to perform work without more than normal supervision
  • Knowledge of basic cooking techniques and food safety practices
  • Ability to interpret instructions and specifications related to food preparation
  • Skill in using and maintaining cooking tools and equipment
  • Dexterity and safety awareness in a kitchen environment
  • Experience preparing food for special and modified diets
  • Ability to work in a hot, fast-paced kitchen setting

Job Duties

  • Prepare routine and semi-complex food items for regular and modified diets
  • Examine food for quality and freshness before preparation
  • Cook, season, and portion meals using standardized recipes
  • Regulate cooking procedures to ensure readiness of multiple dishes simultaneously
  • Use therapeutic recipes for specialized diets such as diabetic, sodium restricted, and low cholesterol
  • Package and distribute food items to various dining locations
  • Check food carts to ensure correct food quantities and types are included
