Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- ServSafe Certification preferred
- Minimum one year cooking experience in a commercial or healthcare dietary setting preferred
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
- Physical capacity to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform repetitive bending, squatting, and twisting
- Ability to comply with health requirements including annual TB screening and physical exam
- Demonstrated ability to follow safety and sanitation regulations
- Ability to use kitchen equipment safely and effectively
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts
- Must be neat and clean in appearance
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and show respect for residents and co-workers
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to respond to emergencies and follow disaster procedures
Job Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred
- ServSafe Certification preferred
- At least one year experience cooking in a commercial kitchen or healthcare dietary department preferred
- Functional literacy and knowledge of nutrition and diet management for regular, modified and therapeutic diets
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical information
- Exceptional communication and customer service skills
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, staff, and outside agencies
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
- Knowledge of emergency and disaster procedures
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions
- Ability to comply with workplace safety policies, including infection control and use of personal protective equipment
- Demonstrated respect for co-workers and residents
- Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner

Job Duties
- Follow recipes and prepare foods that correspond to menu cycles and recipes prepared by Dietitian
- Cook or prepare palatable, attractive, nutritionally adequate meals in institutional quantities according to census and diet type served at proper temperatures and proper times
- Adjust food quantities according to resident needs to prevent over/under production of food
- Supervise kitchen staff assisting with food preparation, assembling trays, cleaning, and storage of supplies and equipment
- Clean food service work areas frequently during and between tasks
- Use food supplies and equipment efficiently and economically to prevent waste
- Prepare and maintain a supply of food substitutes to accommodate resident choices, cultural, ethnic, and religious preferences
- Participate in inventory ordering and receiving of stock/supplies
- Inspect trays after meal service to monitor and report resident acceptance of menu items to Dietary Services Supervisor
- Use food preparation equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions, following proper cleaning and maintenance schedules
- Handle, store, and dispose of food supplies and prepared food in compliance with laws and department procedures
- Follow infection control policies and procedures maintaining sanitary food preparation and storage areas
- Inspect food service work areas for pests, safety hazards, maintenance problems and report or correct issues promptly
- Communicate with Dietary Services Supervisor throughout the shift to meet residents needs
- Assist Supervisor with preparations for county, state, and federal inspections, attend survey training and interact with state surveyors as instructed
- Attend in-service education and apply information to job tasks
- Report injuries and unsafe/hazardous conditions immediately to Supervisor
- Maintain neat and clean work areas
- Demonstrate knowledge of residents rights, dignity and individuality in all interactions
- Maintain confidentiality of residents and facility information
- Exhibit honesty and integrity in the use of resident and facility property
- Adhere to facility policies on attendance, punctuality, and dress code
- Apply working knowledge of food handling, preparation and storage techniques compliant with laws and regulations
- Prioritize tasks and responsibilities, completing duties within allotted time
- Adapt productively to changes and handle additional tasks or projects as assigned
- Carry out all duties according to facility mission and philosophy
- Perform other duties as assigned
