Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum one year food service experience with cooking or chef experience in fast-paced high production kitchen
  • Food Handler's Certification from San Bernardino County Public Health Department required upon hire
  • Ability to safely operate kitchen and cafeteria cooking equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Able to see, hear and taste food for quality control
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and work under pressure
  • Mobile friendly course completion for certification

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Culinary training with Chef Certification or Associate Degree in Culinary Arts highly preferred
  • Minimum one year food service experience with demonstrated cooking or chef experience in high production kitchen
  • Prior healthcare cooking experience preferred
  • Proficient in operating kitchen equipment such as ovens, steamers, grills, mixers, deep fat fryers
  • Strong communication skills and positive interaction with co-workers and supervisors
  • Ability to perform simple math functions related to cooking
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Able to read, write and speak English
  • Able to evaluate food quality by sight, taste and smell

Job Duties

  • Prepare hot and cold food items for patient tray line, cafeteria and catered events according to menu and production forecast
  • Set up hot and cold food stations and serve food for patient tray line
  • Ensure accuracy and quality acceptability of recipes and food items produced
  • Monitor food temperatures to ensure food safety
  • Assist with maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen area
  • Operate kitchen and cafeteria cooking equipment safely
  • Provide instruction and training to new employees and dietetic students
