Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • two years experience as a cook or cook's helper
  • food handler's card from city county health department
  • ability to read, write, and understand English
  • must display leadership qualities and effective communication skills
  • ability to perform basic calculator and PC functions
  • knowledge of proper food temperatures and handling procedures
  • knowledge of food service production operations
  • knowledge of health department regulations
  • knowledge of portion control
  • knowledge of hospital cooking procedures and techniques
  • ability to monitor and maintain quality control standards
  • knowledge of common kitchen equipment

Job Duties

  • assist kitchen in all aspects of kitchen protocol
  • prepare food including seasoning and cooking a wide variety of meals and baking desserts
  • monitor methods of food handling and maintain compliance with health regulations
  • provide instructions, guidance, and supervision to prep cooks and helpers
  • maintain a safe and sanitary kitchen environment in compliance with Joint Commission and health department standards
  • ensure proper portion control and quality control standards
  • use common kitchen equipment such as mixers, slicers, ovens, steamers, ranges, fryers, steam kettles and skillets
