Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous cooking experience in healthcare, long-term care, or institutional settings preferred
  • Knowledge of special dietary needs and restrictions in healthcare environments
  • Ability to read, write, and follow recipes and production sheets
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • ServSafe Certification or equivalent preferred (may be required by state regulations)
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook meals according to the nursing home's menu and dietary guidelines
  • Ensure meals meet residents' specific dietary restrictions (e.g., low-sodium, pureed, diabetic diets)
  • Follow proper food safety, sanitation, and infection control standards
  • Ensure timely preparation and serving of meals for residents, staff, and guests
  • Monitor and record food temperatures and ensure compliance with regulatory standards
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of food and supplies
  • notify supervisor of shortages
  • Clean and maintain kitchen equipment and work areas after meal preparation
  • Collaborate with dietary aides and other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations
  • Follow facility policies and procedures, including emergency and safety protocols
  • Participate in ongoing training and in-services as required by the facility
