Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum age of 17 years
  • Minimum of one year experience in a hospital, institutional or restaurant cooking environment preferred
  • Must complete Serve Safe Food Handling course every 5 years
  • Must maintain license, certification or registration as required
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to make simple calculations
  • Physical ability and stamina including standing for long periods and lifting equipment
  • Willingness to work overtime and additional shifts as needed
  • Ability to adhere to safety, sanitation and regulatory requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum of one year experience in hospital, institutional or restaurant cooking environment preferred
  • Effective communication skills to follow verbal and written instructions and to read and write legibly
  • Basic math ability to make simple calculations
  • Ability to work over hot cooking surfaces and handle food cooked in hot oil
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and hospitality skills to work cooperatively with others and serve the public
  • Attendance of Serve Safe Food Handling course every 5 years
  • Ability to maintain license, certification or registration in good standing
  • Ability to complete mandatory education, annual competencies, and department specific education within established timeframes
  • Physical stamina to perform the essential functions of the position including standing for long periods and lifting equipment

Job Duties

  • Preparing food items according to production schedules and menus for the assigned area
  • Using standardized recipes, proper portioning, sanitation and food handling techniques within assigned area
  • Completing advanced planning and proper preparation of food items to ensure elimination of waste
  • Delivering prepared food to proper area at proper time as needed throughout the serving time
  • Completing advance food preparation as the menu dictates or as required
  • Maintaining a clean, sanitary and safe work area through correct handling and storage of foods and operation of equipment
  • Communicating problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies to the Chef Manager or Supervisor
  • Reporting supply shortages and low stock levels
  • Completing accurate production records for each meal
  • Participating in departmental quality control and quality improvement plans
  • Completing other job related duties and projects as assigned
  • Attending Serve Safe Food Handling course every 5 years
  • Attending and participating in department meetings and being accountable for all information shared
  • Completing mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes
  • Completing annual employee health requirements within established timeframes
  • Maintaining license, certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year
  • Consistently utilizing appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques
  • Adhering to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance
  • Complying with established organization and department policies
  • Available to work overtime and additional shifts when required
