Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • minimum of three years of experience cooking large quantities of food in a commercial kitchen
  • must have current ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification
  • must have reliable transportation
  • possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license including proof of personal vehicle insurance coverage and insurability under the company's insurance carrier standards
  • must successfully pass a criminal background and exclusion/disbarment check
  • must successfully pass a pre-employment physical examination, tuberculosis test and drug screen
  • ability to perform work in a climate controlled kitchen setting
  • physical ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel frequently
  • ability to lift, carry and balance objects up to 30 pounds occasionally
  • ability to pull and push office equipment and supplies
  • good memory, concentration and analytical thinking
  • ability to safely operate a vehicle and kitchen equipment
  • ability to hear, see including distinction of colors, read and communicate verbally and in writing
  • ability to work in moderate to high noise level environment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • minimum of three years of experience cooking large quantities of food in a commercial kitchen
  • experience working in a nonprofit or social services environment, preferred
  • current ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification
  • solid understanding of nutrition cooking guidelines
  • familiar with kitchen equipment and machinery
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • highly organized with attention to detail
  • demonstrated experience managing multiple deadlines and working effectively under pressure
  • demonstrated experience working with a collaborative team
  • knowledge of Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications
  • ability to communicate effectively across diverse populations
  • ability to work with enthusiasm, teamwork, cooperation, and a sense of urgency
  • maintain confidentiality of client and employee information
  • ability to multi-task efficiently

Job Duties

  • Prepares a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables, and other food items for cooking in boilers, ovens, grills, fryers and other kitchen equipment
  • uses standard recipes for preparation and portioning of all products
  • portion food products prior to cooking according to standard portion sizes and recipe specifications, and accommodates for special dietary needs
  • understands and consistently complies with cooking methods, quality standards, and kitchen rules, policies and procedures
  • covers, dates and neatly stores all meats, poultry, seafood, and all other food items
  • adheres to state and local health and safety regulations
  • follows all safety procedures for operating and cleaning of all kitchen equipment
  • promptly reports equipment and food quality problems or product shortages to supervisor
  • assists supervisor with checking stock levels and ordering of food items on a weekly basis
  • maintains a clean and sanitary work area including tables, shelves, walls, grills, convection oven, flat top range and refrigeration equipment
  • opens and closes the kitchen properly and follows operational guidelines
  • attend department and agency meetings and trainings
  • other duties as assigned
