Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or GED
  • accredited food handler certification within 60 days as per State guidelines
  • 6 months to 1 year of proven experience as a cook
  • experience with cutting tools, cookware, and bakeware
  • knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods including grilling, baking, boiling
  • ability to follow all sanitation procedures
  • team player with effective oral and written communication skills
  • excellent physical condition and stamina

Job Duties

  • prepare and cook a variety of meals including soups, meats, gravies, vegetables, desserts, salads, and baked goods from fresh, canned, dry, or frozen states according to recipes
  • adhere to residents' special dietary needs and restrictions
  • monitor all food items for temperature, taste, and quality
  • use various utensils and grillers to cook food, stirring or turning as needed
  • dress dishes for a great presentation before serving
  • keep the kitchen sanitized and orderly, ensuring all equipment is cleaned, working properly, and turned off before closing
  • store all food and items properly to maintain freshness and safety
  • check and ensure the quality of ingredients
  • monitor stock levels and place orders for shortages with supervisor's approval
  • follow nutrition and sanitation guidelines including governmental and company policies and ensure proper documentation
  • assist in training and orienting new kitchen staff
  • maintain high standards of appearance, cleanliness, and personal hygiene
  • attend all required in-service training sessions
  • be an active member of the community’s emergency response team
  • maintain a professional appearance and good personal hygiene as per company policies
  • perform other responsibilities as assigned
