Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum two years formal culinary training or equivalent experience
  • previous experience in food preparation roles
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • ability to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks
  • ability to work early morning and late evening shifts including alternating weekends
  • basic reading and writing skills for documentation
  • ability to follow detailed recipes and instructions
  • strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • commitment to workplace safety and resident confidentiality

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum two years formal culinary training program with degree or equivalent experience
  • food service background in upscale restaurants, private clubs, or hotels preferred
  • knowledge of kitchen sanitation procedures
  • ability to follow standardized recipes and dietary restrictions
  • strong communication and teamwork skills
  • ability to work under pressure
  • commitment to personal hygiene and professional appearance
  • willingness to participate in ongoing training and maintain certification
  • commitment to uphold resident confidentiality and facility policies

Job Duties

  • Prepare all soups, stocks, and sauces
  • boil, braise, and roast items as per standardized recipes
  • prepare and serve sautéed, fried, grilled, steamed, pureed, and baked items
  • complete appropriate paperwork and clean equipment
  • assist with total kitchen sanitation
  • maintain hot food line and service in cooperation with dietary staff and leadership
  • ensure proper temperatures and quality, communicate entree choices, dish up proper portions and ensure plate appearance
  • respond respectfully and hospitably to all customers including leadership, staff, and residents
  • prepare salads, desserts, and baked items per standardized recipes
  • follow food production sheets to meet meal serving hours
  • comply with sanitation standards and OBRA guidelines
  • maintain clean and well-groomed appearance in full uniform
  • monitor, teach, redirect and discipline production and service staff
  • participate in pre-service meetings and complete daily expectations
  • understand and comply with dietary restrictions
  • follow safety regulations and safe food handling practices
  • maintain safe and sanitary workstation
  • uphold personal hygiene and department dress code
  • attend in-service training
  • perform duties assigned by supervisor
  • identify safety hazards and emergency situations
  • maintain resident confidentiality
  • model Cottage Grove Place’s expectations of respect, responsibility, and safety
  • comply with all policies including prohibition of workplace violence and harassment
