Job Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required functional competencies
- Valid driver's license required upon hire
- Certification for food safety and handling preferred
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally and up to 25 lbs. frequently
- Availability to work permanent evening shifts including every other weekend
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Union membership in SEIU-4 United Service Workers-SUH as applicable
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Associate's or vocational degree in the culinary field preferred
- 0 to 2 years of food service experience preferred
- Knowledge of food safety and handling
- Ability to follow standardized recipes
- Strong attention to detail
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Job Duties
- Prepares food in a timely, appealing and appetizing manner
- Prepares food using standardized recipes and proper cooking methods for patients, staff and special functions
- Ensures adequate quantities of food are prepared based on patient need and cafeteria volumes
- Understands special diets and consults with dietitian as needed
- Uses proper cooking, cooling and reheating techniques to ensure food safety
- Checks temperatures regularly prior to serving food
- Labels, dates, covers and stores food properly
- Utilizes sanitizing techniques for food, self and equipment
- Assists in restocking work station
- Operates cash register when needed
- Assists with menu development
- Maintains adequate food stock to meet menu requirements and patient requests
- Performs other duties as assigned
