Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • One year cooking experience
  • Knowledge of cooking utensils and equipment
  • Ability to lift up to seventy-five pounds and move three to four feet
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, and reach
  • Preferred three years institutional food preparation experience
  • Preferred two years leadership experience
  • Vocational training preferred
  • ServSafe certification preferred

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum one year experience cooking a variety of foods in quantity with knowledge of seasoning and cooking time
  • Knowledge of care and use of cooking utensils and equipment
  • Ability to lift up to seventy-five pounds and move three to four feet
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and frequently bend, stoop, and reach
  • Preferred three years experience in institutional food preparation
  • Preferred two years leadership experience through instruction and example
  • Vocational training preferred
  • ServSafe certification preferred

Job Duties

  • Works with coworkers in team environment that promotes positive service qualities and respect of residents
  • Reviews production information with staff on daily basis
  • Ensures and monitors correct quantities of production and portioning, monitors and records production and waste data
  • Prepares all food items in accordance to department standards
  • Ensures food retains nutritional value, attractive appearance and palatability
  • Serves food at the appropriate temperature
  • Follows proper guidelines to meet special dietary needs
  • Responsible for overall cleanliness of kitchen and dining room
  • Ensures staff adherence to food safety and sanitation standards
  • Maintains safe, clean and orderly work environment
  • Guides, assists and instructs other staff members
  • Plans and organizes work schedule for timely food preparation
  • Serves as designated person in charge in absence of manager(s)
  • Finds coverage for call-offs
  • Monitors employee breaks
  • Notifies director of behavioral and performance issues
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Assists in serving and delivery of meals
  • Prepares and serves special events and catering
  • Provides direction and assistance with cleanup operations
  • Monitors compliance with cleaning schedules
  • Assists in ordering and receiving of food
  • Ensures proper food storage
  • Assists in training and orientation of new employees
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, projects, special events, committees and mandatory training
  • Completes competency evaluations as required by the state
  • Follows all applicable state regulations
