University Housing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking dedicated and skilled Cooks to join their dynamic Dining and Culinary Services team. This department is committed to providing residents, staff, and visitors with nutritious and flavorful meals prepared from locally sourced ingredients and fresh produce. Job Requirements

  • 1 year of food production experience in a professional kitchen setting
  • ServSafe Food Handler Certificate or ability to obtain within the first 6 months of employment
  • English proficiency required
  • ability to work a schedule consisting of five 8-hour shifts per week with availability for night and weekend shifts
  • ability to work on-site at designated campus location
  • willing to pass criminal background check

Job Qualifications

  • High School diploma preferred
  • 1 year of food production experience in a professional kitchen setting
  • ServSafe Food Handler Certificate or ability to obtain within the first 6 months of employment
  • over 1 year of institution-scale food service production experience in a professional kitchen setting preferred

Job Duties

  • Perform food production to include batch cooking, cook-to-flow, and made-to-order display cooking
  • perform duties in a high-volume, dynamic, student residential dining environment
  • interact with English speaking customers while displaying knowledge of food products, allergens and food safety
  • demonstrate and role model exceptional customer service
  • provide support and assist as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergency
  • train and guide student workers
  • adhere to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures
  • greet customers, answer questions, and provide information regarding food preparation and associated activities
  • clean, inspect, and maintain kitchen equipment and work areas
  • perform routine and non-routine food preparation activities including cook to order and specialty foods
