Job Requirements

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check
  • If in recovery, a minimum of one year of sustained recovery with active participation in a 12-step program is required
  • Two or more years of sustained recovery is preferred
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Position requires a lot of repetitive motion: lifting, pushing, and carrying
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs
  • Ability to work in areas with extreme heat conditions and frequent interaction with gas burners, heated equipment, grease, sharp machinery, and other at-risk conditions

Job Duties

  • Assist with planning and preparing meals while observing all food safety requirements for handling and food prep
  • Assist with inspection of all donated food items to determine quality of food, as required
  • Communicate with Dining Services Manager regarding food that needs to be ordered, as required
  • Ensure the kitchen is clean, organized, and safe
  • Assist with supervising shelter Guests working in the kitchen and dining hall to ensure they adhere to predetermined best practices for cleanliness and safety, as required
  • Assist with supervising shelter Guests to ensure all cooking appliances, pots and pans, dishes, bowls, cups and utensils are cleaned and sanitized properly
  • Utilize proper safety procedures including proper safety equipment and lifting techniques while performing assigned job duties
