Job Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred
- ServSafe certification preferred
- At least one year experience cooking in a commercial kitchen or healthcare dietary department preferred
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret scientific and technical information
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
- Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division using whole numbers, fractions and decimals
- Must have exceptional communication and customer service skills
- Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress of the job
- Must meet general health requirements including annual TB screening and physical examination
- Must be able to stand for extended periods
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday
- Must be neat and clean in appearance

Job Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred
- ServSafe Certification preferred
- At least one year experience cooking in a commercial kitchen or healthcare dietary department preferred
- Functional literacy and knowledge of basic nutrition and diet management
- Exceptional communication and customer service skills
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, staff and outside agencies
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical information
- Ability to perform basic mathematical operations involving weight and volume measurements
- Empathy and respect for individuals
- Knowledge of emergency and disaster procedures
- Ability to prioritize and adapt to changing job demands
Job Duties
- Follow recipes and prepare foods according to menu cycles
- Cook or prepare meals in institutional quantities served at proper temperatures and times
- Supervise kitchen staff assisting with food preparation, tray assembling, cleaning and storage of supplies and equipment
- Frequently clean food service work areas during and between tasks
- Use food supplies and equipment efficiently to prevent waste
- Prepare and maintain supply of food substitutes to accommodate resident preferences
- Participate in inventory ordering and receiving of stock and supplies
- Inspect trays after meal service and report resident acceptance to supervisor
- Use food preparation equipment according to manufacturer instructions and follow cleaning and maintenance schedules
- Handle, store, and dispose of food according to departmental procedures and regulations
- Follow infection control policies and use personal protective equipment when necessary
- Inspect food service areas for hazards and report or correct problems
- Communicate with Dietary Services Supervisor to meet resident needs
- Assist with preparations for inspections and attend training
- Report injuries and unsafe conditions immediately
- Maintain neat and clean work areas
- Demonstrate respect for residents' rights and confidentiality
- Appreciate importance of food preparation for resident quality of life
- Follow facility mission and philosophy
- Understand and follow written and verbal directions
- Knowledge of emergency procedures
- Maintain physical ability to move and assist residents as needed
- Comply with workplace safety and infection control policies
