Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • One to two years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
  • Food service sanitation certificate
  • Ability to speak, understand and read English to safely and properly care for residents
  • Ability to stand, sit, stoop, push, pull, lift up to 75 pounds or more, bend, climb, twist upper body, walk, run, carry, listen, talk
  • Ability to use telephone and work around medical equipment and persons with risk of illness
  • Compliance with federal, state, and local laws and facility policies and procedures
  • Must be able to perform manual tasks involved in food preparation and kitchen maintenance

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • One to two years related experience and/or training preferred
  • Food service sanitation certificate required
  • Ability to speak, understand and read English
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to carry out responsibilities in compliance with laws and facility policies
  • Experience with institutional food preparation preferred
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards

Job Duties

  • Cooks and prepares food in a sanitary manner including preparing palatable, attractive, nutritional meals in institutional quantities, serving at proper time and temperature, and adhering to recipes and menu cycles
  • Maintains clean and safe food preparation environment including continuous cleaning of work areas, inspecting for pests, safety hazards, and maintenance problems, using food supplies and equipment safely and economically, and following cleaning and maintenance schedules
  • Maintains food supplies including proper handling, storing, and disposal of food supplies and prepared foods, preparing and maintaining food substitutes to accommodate resident choices, cultural, ethnic and religious preferences
  • Observes proper safety protocols and timely reports safety issues to supervisors, including incidents, injuries, equipment problems, OSHA mandates, workplace safety practices, infection control, hazard communication, blood borne pathogens, fire safety, and proper lifting techniques
  • Performs quality assessment and assurance functions as directed
  • Maintains proper documentation including food and equipment temperature records
  • Continues professional development through education and in-service programs
  • Assists with survey processes and develops and updates food service policies and procedures as directed
  • Communicates effectively with other staff using good verbal and written skills
  • Complies with federal, state, and local laws and facility policies
  • Supports residents and coworkers in maintaining a safe and healthy environment
  • Performs other duties as assigned
