Job Description

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- One year of experience involving food preparation and management or equivalent
- Submission of high school transcripts or GED
- Submission of North Carolina driver’s license
- Submission of birth certificate
- Submission of Military DD-214 Member-4 if applicable
- Submission of social security card
- Authorization of release of personal information to Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office with notarization
- Background check with local law enforcement agency
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- One year of experience in food preparation and management or equivalent
- Working knowledge of food service methods and sanitation procedures
- Ability to adapt to changing situations and work independently
- Knowledge of state and local health regulations and OSHA standards
- Vocational or technical training in food services and warehouse management is desired
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license may be required
- Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships
Job Duties
- Prepares and cooks food for inmates and staff following approved menus and recipes
- Ensures proper food handling practices according to sanitation procedures
- Prepares food from scratch to proper appearance, seasoning, and taste
- Prepares food in advance for prompt service such as thawing and pre-cooking
- Directs the work of less experienced cooks and inmate workers to ensure compliance with food safety
- Serves food to inmates ensuring adequate portions
- Cleans and maintains sanitation of kitchen equipment, dishes, utensils, storage, and dining areas
- Prepares and cooks special diet foods based on health, allergy, or religious needs
- Ensures special diet trays are properly marked and delivered
- Performs daily inventory counts, receives, and properly stores supplies
- Assists in meal planning to use leftovers and control costs
