Job Requirements

  • Must treat all members of the community fairly with civility and respect
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students faculty staff municipal officers and the public
  • Be alert friendly mature tactful and firm
  • Excellent common sense applicable to situations with varying levels of urgency
  • Ability to provide appropriate guidance and action in emergency situations
  • Ability to handle confidential material
  • Available to work 8-hour shifts and be on-call 24/7 for emergency calls
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must understand and support the role of college campus safety officers in facilitating student education and success

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education training and experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office including Word Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to provide appropriate guidance and action during emergencies
  • Ability to handle confidential material
  • Customer service experience preferred
  • Campus security experience ideal
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong organizational skills

Job Duties

  • Answers incoming calls greeting callers providing information transferring calls and or taking messages as necessary
  • Operates communication systems such as multi-line telephone consoles and two-way radios
  • Initiates routine calls and routes emergency calls appropriately
  • Records messages suggesting rewording for clarity and conciseness
  • Relays and routes written and verbal messages
  • Acts as college receptionist to guests visiting the campus and the community
  • Operates a two-way radio to dispatch calls to security staff on duty using prescribed radio procedures
  • Monitors safety systems to ensure secure conditions
  • Operates the college’s security access system
  • Provides information about the college as authorized
  • Administers keys to buildings rooms and vehicles to authorized persons
  • Maintains accurate records and distribution of all academic and administrative building keys
  • Assists with keys and access cards for community members including camps special events reunion weekend and temporary spaces
  • Orders lock changes for all lost keys to assure safety and security
