The Long Island State Veterans Home, located on the campus of Stony Brook University, is a 350-bed skilled nursing facility dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care to honorably discharged Veterans of the United States Armed Forces, their spouses, and Gold Star parents. Job Requirements

  • Associate's degree with one year of administrative experience or High School Diploma with three years of administrative experience
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to interpret and implement health guidelines
  • Ability to train and coach staff
  • Willingness and ability to adapt quickly to changing protocols
  • Must successfully clear a background investigation
  • Must complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance
  • Must submit three written references
  • Must comply with COVID-19 vaccination requirements
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle emergency situations
  • Available to work irregular hours as needed

Job Duties

  • Courteously greets all visitors and employees upon arrival to the Long Island State Veterans Home
  • Educates visitors and employees on testing and protocols in accordance with DOH guidelines
  • Assists all visitors with screening upon entry into the facility and facilitates mandatory testing as required by the NYS DOH
  • Asks visitors health screening questions related to illness exposure, symptoms, and travel history and conducts temperature checks ensuring temperatures are within normal limits
  • Assists employees with electronic screening upon entry and collaborates with IT staff for machine maintenance
  • Collaborates with facility testing team to facilitate and administer employee COVID-19 testing and screening
  • Stocks and monitors supply levels of Personal Protective Equipment and testing supplies, notifying Nursing Operations Coordinator when supplies are low
  • Provides visitors and employees with proper PPE based on COVID status of units and residents
  • Maintains visitation records and enters visitor contact information into the Visitation Database in collaboration with Social Work Services
  • Maintains employee vaccine sign-up sheets and assists with facilitation of employee vaccinations
  • Responds to visitor and employee inquiries with courteous communication
  • Uses appropriate de-escalation techniques during difficult encounters
  • Politely denies access to individuals who do not meet screening requirements
  • Escalates potential issues to supervisor in a timely manner
  • Answers telephones promptly providing high-level assistance
  • Organizes supplies and maintains cleanliness and organization of the Health Information Desk Screening area
  • Assists with training new staff on relevant programs, regulations, and guidelines
  • Facilitates wayfinding and escorts residents and visitors as necessary
