Job Description

The University of Maryland, College Park, one of the leading public research universities in the United States, is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional for the position of Shift Manager within its versatile food service operations. Job Requirements

  • Must have or obtain a driver’s license valid in Maryland with less than 5 points
  • Must have or obtain Prince George’s County Maryland Health Department Food Service Manager Certification
  • Must have or obtain TIPS or equivalent certification
  • Must have State of Maryland Fire Marshall approved crowd management certification
  • Must pass DOT physical and drug test before hire
  • Must be able to work variable schedules including weekends, nights, evenings, and holidays
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds regularly and 75 pounds occasionally
  • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Must become a certified TIPS Trainer within 180 days of hire

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Three years of experience in restaurants, concessions, catering or food service management
  • One year leading or supervising professional staff
  • Knowledge of high volume food service operations and trends
  • Skilled in oral and written communication
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and laws
  • Outstanding leadership, guest service, and hospitality skills

Job Duties

  • Ensure adherence to health and safety standards
  • Develop work schedules and assign staff
  • Assist with various operational aspects of the food service units
  • Ensure quality customer service and attention to detail
  • Manage a team of professional and support staff
  • Recruit and motivate special event staff and non-profit groups
  • Operate food production, inventory, and HR software and POS systems
