Job Description

The Village of Tinley Park, with a population of approximately 56,000 residents, is committed to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment through effective community policing. Located in Illinois, Tinley Park is a vibrant and growing community that values public safety and the active involvement of its citizens. To support the Tinley Park Police Department's efforts and enhance community engagement, the Village has created four new part-time Community Service Officer (CSO) - Field Operations positions. Job Requirements

  • must have a high school diploma or GED
  • minimum of one year experience in public contact roles
  • must possess a valid driver's license
  • must maintain a clean driving record
  • must complete LEADS certification within six months
  • must attend all other required in-house training
  • must be able to work a consistent part-time schedule of 30-34 hours weekly
  • must be available Monday through Saturday
  • must be flexible to work afternoon shifts from 12:00pm to 8:00pm or 2:00pm to 10:00pm
  • must be available for emergency and community event support outside of standard shifts

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or GED
  • at least one year of prior related experience involving public contact
  • prior public safety experience preferred
  • valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • excellent communication skills
  • ability to interact tactfully and courteously with the public
  • ability to safely operate Village vehicles in all weather conditions
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • successful completion of LEADS certification within six months of hire

Job Duties

  • patrol the Village using motorized vehicles and observe vehicles and pedestrians
  • report suspicious circumstances requiring police intervention
  • identify and mitigate traffic hazards or notify proper authorities
  • remove illegal signs placed throughout the Village
  • enforce municipal ordinances relating to non-criminal complaints
  • provide assistance and information to the public
  • write and issue non-traffic citations
  • attend court as required
  • prepare reports on assigned incidents using desktop computers or mobile data terminals
  • provide motorist assistance
  • assist crossing guards at school crossings
  • manage traffic control and direction including events at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater
  • conduct vacation house watch and security checks
  • facilitate police department station tours
  • fingerprint individuals for non-criminal purposes
  • assist officers in prisoner processing at lock-up
  • transport police vehicles to Public Works or other service providers for cleaning, maintenance, and repair
