Job Requirements
- Completion of 12th grade or equivalent
- Four years of relevant experience in recreation or community programs
- Valid Class C California driver’s license or the ability to obtain one
- CPR and basic first aid certification or the ability to obtain them
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to supervise part-time, seasonal, and contractual staff
- Ability to plan and implement community programs
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends when necessary
Job Qualifications
- Four years of experience in organized recreation, cultural arts, or community programs
- Completion of 12th grade or GED with college coursework in recreation, public administration, early childhood development, education or related field
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Knowledge of recreation and community services planning and implementation
- Knowledge of recreation administration principles and practices
- Knowledge of record keeping and reporting procedures
- Familiarity with promotion and advertising principles
- Understanding of community social and cultural needs
- Experience with budgeting procedures and techniques
- Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate staff
- Proficient in modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment
- Skilled in program planning and development procedures
Job Duties
- Plan, coordinate, assign, and supervise recreational, community service and cultural art activities including excursions, special events, and facility usage
- Assist in recommending and implementing goals, policies, and procedures
- Evaluate assigned program operations and activities, recommend improvements, and prepare reports
- Ensure compliance with laws, rules, and regulations related to recreation services
- Assist in staff selection, training, performance evaluation, and discipline
- Assist in budget preparation, cost estimates, monitor expenditures, and develop funding sources
- Prepare program publicity materials and maintain accurate records and reports
