Job Requirements
- Four years of experience in organized recreation, cultural art or community programs
- Completion of 12th grade or GED with college coursework in related fields
- Ability to obtain valid Class C California driver’s license
- Ability to obtain CPR and basic first aid certificates
- Ability to meet physical demands including prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, and fine coordination
- Ability to see clearly for reading and computer work
- Good hearing for phone and counter assistance
Job Qualifications
- Completion of 12th grade or GED supplemented by college coursework in recreation, public administration, early childhood development, education or related field
- Four years of experience in organized recreation, cultural art or community programs
- Ability to plan, implement and evaluate recreation and community services
- Knowledge of recreation administration principles and practices
- Understanding of recordkeeping and reporting procedures
- Familiarity with promotion and advertising principles
- Understanding of recreational, cultural and social community needs
- Budgeting experience
- Experience in supervision, training and performance evaluation
- Proficiency with modern office procedures and computer equipment
- Strong program planning and development skills
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
Job Duties
- Plan, coordinate, assign, and supervise staff work in recreation, community service and cultural art activities including excursions, special events, facility usage, senior activities, sports programs, youth and teen programs, and registration on a city-wide basis
- Assist in the recommendation and implementation of goals and objectives
- implement policies and procedures
- Evaluate operation and activities in assigned program areas
- recommend improvements and modifications
- prepare various reports on operations and activities
- Ensure program compliance with laws, rules and regulations
- Assist in staff selection, training and discipline
- Assist in budget preparation and administration, prepare cost estimates, monitor and control expenditures, develop alternative funding sources
- Recommend and implement new creative programs
- Be on site during operations and delegate responsibilities
- Prepare program publicity including news releases, flyers, pamphlets, and brochures
- Maintain records and prepare related reports
- review and approve payroll
- Maintain registration and fees records
- Manage supplies and equipment inventory
- act as liaison with the public
- Investigate complaints and recommend corrective actions
- Communicate clearly orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
- Perform other tasks as necessary to employer daily operations
