Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in leisure services, recreation, or related field
  • Five years of progressively responsible post-graduate experience in public recreation program administration and event management
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License
  • First-Aid, CPR, AED certification required or ability to obtain within first six months
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to speak to large and small groups
  • Ability to supervise staff effectively
  • Willingness to work flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Skilled in business English and related correspondence standards
  • Proficient with computers and standard software applications
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local rules, ordinances, and regulations
  • Ability to maintain records and follow departmental policies
  • Ability to lead, train and coordinate employees
  • Physical ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds and work in outdoor conditions

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in leisure services, recreation, or related field
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in public recreation administration and event management
  • Valid Florida Driver's License
  • First-Aid, CPR, and AED certification or ability to obtain within six months
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience supervising seasonal, part-time, and full-time staff
  • Knowledge of budget development and administration
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays

Job Duties

  • Manage all aspects of events including activity development, publication, advertising coordination, and entertainment
  • Solicit and secure donations, sponsorship, and citizen involvement
  • Negotiate with and secure vendors and performers per City policies
  • Work closely with City departments to ensure compliance with codes and ordinances
  • Collaborate with community organizations on fundraising activities and events
  • Assist with planning, implementing departmental goals and tracking key performance indicators
  • Serve as lead on the City's Special Event Review Team and manage special event request portal
