Job Description

The Community Recreation Division operates within the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department under the Navy Installations Command (CNIC) at the Naval Construction Battalion Center (NCBC) Gulfport, located in Gulfport, Mississippi. This division is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Navy personnel, their families, and the surrounding community by offering a broad range of recreational programs and services throughout the year. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in recreation, leisure studies, exercise science or related field preferred but may be substituted by equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Specialized experience related to recreation program management
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of recreational program goals, principles, techniques, and methods
  • Ability to plan, organize and conduct activities suitable for diverse demographics
  • Ability to negotiate and sustain partnerships
  • Ability to maintain accurate databases
  • Must be suitable for federal employment
  • Must complete probationary period if required
  • Must participate in direct deposit pay program
  • Must provide social security card
  • Must pass employment verification (E-VERIFY)
  • Background check required
  • Males must be registered or exempt from Selective Service

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in recreation, marketing, business or a closely related field or equivalent recreation-related work experience
  • Experience combining customer service and activity-based functions
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of recreational programs and entertainment events
  • Ability to plan and lead leisure and social recreation programs
  • Experience in creating, negotiating, implementing, and sustaining partnerships
  • Ability to maintain accurate databases and represent an organization publicly

Job Duties

  • Manage and administer a comprehensive year-round recreation program in the ITT Office
  • Plan, promote, and implement a variety of MWR Community Recreation programs and activities
  • Seek and establish partnerships within the community to enhance program offerings
  • Maintain clear and accurate databases related to recreational programs and participant information
  • Represent the department in speaking engagements and public events
  • Develop and implement program plans that stimulate and sustain participant interest across diverse demographics
  • Make independent decisions to effectively manage recreational activities and resources
