Job Requirements

  • Minimum associate degree or equivalent college hours
  • Two years of relevant work experience counts as one year of college education
  • Must be bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Ability to work hours other than regular
  • Ability to travel overnight up to 50 percent
  • Must possess certification as Child Passenger Safety Technician within 12 months if not already certified
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and email
  • Must be able to participate in disaster response activities
  • Must be a full-time employee
  • Must be nonexempt
  • Must be willing to work day shift
  • Salary range $3,520.33 to $4,203.08 monthly
  • Position located in McAllen, Texas
  • Not eligible for telework

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum associate degree or equivalent college hours
  • At least two years of relevant work experience in a related field
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish
  • Experience working with the public, students, community members, or professionals
  • Knowledge of public health issues, program implementation, and health education strategies
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Skill in using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to collect and analyze data
  • Ability to conduct presentations and training sessions
  • Certification as a Child Passenger Safety Technician preferred or required within 12 months of hire

Job Duties

  • Work with communities and local stakeholders to identify, develop, implement, and evaluate health promotion strategies
  • Provide technical assistance for community-wide health campaigns
  • Educate the community about health issues and services specified in the Community Health Improvement Plan
  • Participate in population-based services for maternal and child health
  • Develop and deliver educational presentations and training to at-risk populations and providers
  • Assist Health Services Region 11 staff as a resource for public health awareness
  • Implement evidence-based public health programs
  • Coordinate and facilitate stakeholder planning meetings
  • Track and maintain activity schedules and program materials
  • Collect assessment data to plan and evaluate public health interventions
  • Conduct local public health system assessments
  • Prepare and assist in administrative reports and public health studies
  • Support office duties including phone coverage, supplies ordering, and filing
  • Participate in disaster response and recovery operations as assigned
