Job Requirements

Lived experience and/or experience working within BIPOC communities
Interest in culture-based, land-centered, and/or justice centered education
Familiarity with concepts of food sovereignty and food justice
Some vegetable gardening experience preferred but not required
Ability to be open and flexible to new ways of working with diverse communities
Familiarity with Zoom, Google suite, Canva, and Instagram
Ability to work outdoors often in challenging terrain and extreme heat

Job Duties

Assist with community classes led by Community Programs Coordinator including seed saving course for BIPOC gardeners and vegetable gardening 101 class
Facilitate children’s activities during tabling opportunities at the Desert Botanical Garden and off-site community events
Have schedule flexibility for weekday evening and Saturday events
Assist Community Programs Coordinator with weekly irrigation days
Help facilitate Community Garden volunteer workdays
Be available on-site at the Community Garden on Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday mornings
Assist with coordination of community building events such as chef demonstration at Farmers' Market, Fund the Farm, volunteer potlucks, and DBG staff volunteer day
Update harvest/donation, volunteer attendance, and student attendance logs
Scan volunteer forms
Attend Community Garden monthly meetings
Promote Community Garden on social media
Help draft Community Garden monthly newsletter
