Job Requirements

  • Successful completion of Communication Specialist Academy
  • Completion of PHI New Hire Orientation classes
  • Completion of PHI Destination Zero training
  • Successful completion of King County Emergency Medical Dispatcher Certification Program
  • Yearly recurrent training, including HIPAA and Code of Conduct
  • Designated safety sensitive position under Arizona Medical Marijuana Act
  • Ability to work a 3 and 4 schedule
  • Must be based in Phoenix, AZ

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • EMS and/or air medical communications experience preferred
  • Experience in public relations, customer service, marketing or sales preferred
  • Healthcare billing and insurance knowledge preferred
  • Medical terminology preferred
  • Computer literate with good knowledge of Word and Excel
  • Ability to learn custom software programs
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to function calmly under pressure and make problem-solving decisions
  • Ability to pass pre-placement drug and background screening

Job Duties

  • Assimilating various forms of information to make quality decisions
  • Performing specialized communication services including transport requests and triage
  • Maintaining comprehensive communication with crew and aircraft using multi-channeled radio systems
  • Performing constant flight following procedures according to FAA and company policies
  • Documenting detailed medical information and transport activity legally
  • Coordinating medical transports nationally and internationally with multiple departments
  • Accurately inputting flight and ground transport data into network databases
  • Maintaining knowledge of FAA rules and compliance
  • Facilitating positive relationships with healthcare facilities and agencies
  • Implementing proper incident notification procedures
  • Participating in staff and continuing education meetings
  • Handling incoming long distance air medical transport quote requests
  • Initiating front-end billing and assisting financial services as needed
  • Providing outbound follow-up calls and identifying backhaul flight legs
  • Keeping patient files updated
  • Performing other required duties
