Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Typing speed of 35 words per minute
  • Possession or ability to obtain Georgia POST communications officer certification
  • Possession or ability to obtain GCIC/NCIC certification
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to work flexible 12-hour shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays without restriction
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Job Duties

  • Receive and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls including securing caller information
  • Dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls to law enforcement, fire, rescue, EMS, and other public safety personnel
  • Answer and respond to TDD phone calls
  • Provide callers with emergency medical instructions such as CPR and bleeding control
  • Document radio traffic for various departments including police, Code Enforcement, animal control, rescue, fire, medical units, Coroner's office, life flight, and GSP
  • Update and maintain GCIC/NCIC databases including entering, modifying, clearing, and canceling warrants
  • Receive and respond to traffic stop information and process driver and vehicle information requests
  • Perform follow-up tasks including dispatching wrecker services, sending backup units, and contacting life flight services
  • Handle communication requests by contacting other counties, utility companies, emergency agencies, and shelters
  • Page non-emergency information and test communication systems regularly
  • Monitor visitor traffic and provide information to visitors and non-emergency callers
  • Operate radios, pagers, personal computers, and office equipment to complete essential functions
