Job Requirements
- Two years of current journey level experience dispatching law enforcement and/or fire/medical resources
- Successful completion of Marin County Sheriff's Office training program in 911 call taking and dispatching within twelve months
- Must not have felony convictions as per CLETS requirements
- Ability to work shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime
- Possession of or ability to obtain California P.O.S.T. Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Certificate within twelve months
- Ability to pass pre-employment controlled substance use standards
- Successful background investigation and polygraph or voice stress analyzer examination
- Completion of medical and psychological exams
- Willingness to affirm loyalty oath as a Disaster Service Worker
- Ability to work under pressure and in fast-paced environments
Job Qualifications
- Knowledge of the cities, highways, main streets, major buildings and geography of Marin County
- Knowledge of the function, organization, purpose and procedure of a public safety communications center
- Ability to operate telecommunications equipment such as two-way radios and multi-line systems
- Ability to obtain and record accurate and detailed information by telephone and personal contact
- Ability to dispatch information quickly and accurately
- Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in problem resolution
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely in English
- Ability to react calmly and efficiently in emergencies
- Two years of current journey level experience dispatching law enforcement and/or fire/medical resources
- Completion of Marin County Sheriff's Office training program in 911 call taking and dispatching
- Certification from the National Academy of Emergency Dispatch as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher is highly desirable
- Possession of or ability to obtain California P.O.S.T. Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Certificate within twelve months of appointment
Job Duties
- Operate a variety of telecommunications equipment including two-way radios and multi-line systems
- Obtain and record accurate and detailed information by telephone and personal contact
- Dispatch emergency law enforcement and public safety personnel quickly, efficiently, and accurately
- Exercise judgment and discretion in resolving problems during emergency situations
- Communicate clearly and concisely in English under stressful conditions
- React efficiently and calmly in emergencies and adopt effective courses of action
- Train new dispatchers upon assignment as a trainer
