Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of recent public safety dispatching experience involving heavy call volume while performing multiple tasks using a Computer Aided Dispatch system
  • Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License with a clean driving record
  • Ability to type 40 net words per minute
  • Must be able to work all shifts including day, swing, and graveyard on a rotational basis including weekends and holidays
  • Required to wear prescribed uniform
  • Must obtain and maintain current First Aid and CPR certifications after probation
  • Compliance with vaccination requirements as condition of employment
  • Ability to undergo a background investigation including criminal records, credit and driving checks
  • Ability to pass polygraph, psychological and medical examinations
  • Must provide proof of identity and work authorization prior to employment

Job Qualifications

  • Two years of recent public safety dispatching experience involving heavy call volume while utilizing a Computer Aided Dispatch system
  • Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to type 40 net words per minute
  • Skilled at multitasking
  • Ability to file and prepare accurate reports
  • Manual dexterity to operate telephone, radio and computer keyboard equipment
  • Clear and audible English communication skills
  • Ability to memorize and retain information quickly
  • Physical capability including eyesight and hearing to satisfactorily complete job tasks
  • Correct spelling ability
  • Knowledge of the laws, regulations, and rules applicable to the assigned area
  • Familiarity with operating procedures and policies of the Public Safety Division
  • Strong analytical skills to reason clearly and act effectively in emergency situations
  • Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues, other agencies, volunteers, and the public

Job Duties

  • Receive telephone calls from citizens, employees or other agencies requesting general park information, police or fire assistance including 911 and other emergency calls
  • Transmit and receive radio messages
  • Analyze situations and dispatch the appropriate units
  • Dispatch mobile units and other equipment to specified locations as ordered
  • Make telephone requests for ambulance, vehicle towing, or other emergency services as requested by officers in the field
  • Monitor other law enforcement and fire agencies' radio frequencies and rebroadcast pertinent information
  • Operate and make minor adjustments to radio telephone transmitting and receiving equipment
  • Perform varied clerical duties including typing, maintaining message logs, assisting on reports and records, filing, answering phones, and responding to inquiries from the public and other agencies
  • Process police court cases and parking citations, fire, medical and field reports
  • Perform data entry and retrieve data
  • Collect monies from members of the public for fees related to towing, dog permits, copies of reports, or other services, or for paying fines
