Job Requirements

  • Valid Montana driver's license
  • proof of vehicle insurance
  • obtain on-the-job training in Incident Command System courses 100, 200, 700, 300, 400 and basic PIO training
  • ability to maintain a calm and measured response during difficult situations
  • ability to educate staff on collaboration
  • excellent critical thinking, listening, written and oral communication skills
  • excellent presentation and public speaking skills
  • computer literacy in Office 365, WordPress, and Adobe Creative Suite

Job Qualifications

  • Five years of public relations/communications experience
  • two years of leadership or supervisory experience
  • photography, videography and graphic design experience
  • experience in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Canva, and/or Office365
  • experience in WordPress
  • bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, broadcast journalism, marketing, public health, or related field
  • master's degree preferred
  • existing relationships with key news media journalists in Montana/Billings markets preferred

Job Duties

  • Serves as a member of the Cross-Directors Leadership Team to provide strategic direction for organizational communication and external public affairs
  • responsible for leadership, development, implementation and oversight of a comprehensive communications and marketing plan
  • cultivates new relationships and strengthens existing ones with stakeholders
  • provides communication guidance and support to boards and committees as needed
  • develops, implements, and evaluates communication plans, messaging, media, and public relations
  • researches, plans, and implements communication strategies to increase market share and visibility
  • engages with external consultants for publication design and communications strategy
  • works with subject matter experts to develop news media materials
  • develops and maintains strong media relationships and serves as spokesperson
  • researches and uses social media and digital communication tools
  • prepares and trains subject matter experts for media communication
  • promotes programs through community outreach
  • participates in internal work groups and coalition building
  • monitors environment to proactively manage communication issues
  • collaborates with leaders to maintain website accuracy
  • reviews marketing materials for brand standards
  • oversees creation of digital and print materials
  • responds to media inquiries and connects media to experts
  • attends trainings to stay current
  • serves as Public Information Officer during emergencies
  • directs staff work and schedules
  • provides training and support to staff
  • collaborates with Human Resources on hiring and employee issues
  • completes performance appraisals and handles employee relations
  • stays current on supervisory best practices
  • performs other duties as assigned
  • supervises Digital Communications and Event Coordinator and Internal Communications and Engagement Coordinator
  • oversees volunteers and interns as needed
