Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • two years of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position
  • willingness and ability to physically intervene with assaultive youth
  • physical ability to climb stairs and be on feet for entire shifts
  • residency in Colorado
  • ability to maintain confidentiality
  • adherence to department policies
  • submission of all required documentation
  • completion of mandatory training
  • ability to operate equipment related to surveillance and safety
  • commitment to ethical standards and positive youth development

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • two years of professional experience in a related occupational field
  • preferred college education in behavioral health or juvenile justice
  • experience working with adjudicated or detained youth
  • experience facilitating psychoeducational groups
  • experience mentoring or coaching youth

Job Duties

  • Serve as a liaison with body-worn camera vendors
  • establish and maintain staff user profiles for surveillance equipment
  • ensure clear and accountable use of body-worn cameras
  • review video footage related to incidents and investigations
  • assist administration with video review for personnel concerns
  • ensure compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality policies
  • track and report performance data to leadership
  • manage radios, stationary cameras, DVRs, and safety systems like metal detectors and perimeter lighting
  • coach and mentor direct care staff on incident response and safety procedures
  • complete personnel documentation and provide feedback
  • train staff on incident response policies
  • monitor youth safety and behavior
  • respond effectively to crises using emergency protocols
  • conduct safety drills and inspections
  • assign staff to posts enforcing staff-youth ratios and proper equipment use
  • ensure staff use verbal de-escalation and strength-based interaction approaches
  • oversee mechanical restraints and seclusion use
  • participate in youth safety planning and behavioral agreements
  • provide direct security coverage as needed
  • ensure compliance with search and inspection policies
  • report discrepancies to administration
  • support PREA compliance and prevention of sexual contact in the facility
  • oversee critical incident reporting
  • supervise accurate documentation of incidents and investigations
  • collaborate with rights and PREA coordinators
  • promote a positive and respectful organizational culture
  • communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders
  • adhere to CDHS and DYS codes, policies, and standards
  • role-model and enforce staff compliance with policies
  • attend mandatory and professional development training
  • perform other duties as assigned
