Job Requirements

  • Minimum age 18
  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • completion of company orientation
  • completion of food safety and sanitation training upon hire
  • ability to function in a fast-paced retail environment
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • knowledge of computer systems and equipment
  • ability to perform detailed and precise tasks
  • ability to stand, walk, reach, bend, and lift up to 50-55 lbs depending on department
  • ability to comply with food safety and sanitation standards

Job Duties

  • Provides superior customer service
  • takes orders from customers by telephone or in person
  • answers customer questions regarding products
  • assists them with selections
  • prepares, packages, and merchandises fresh product effectively
  • slices, packages, labels, rotates, and culls products for poor quality
  • assists in technical areas as needed
  • uses suggestive selling techniques and basic product knowledge to meet customer needs and build department sales
  • cleans and sanitizes display cases
  • operates and maintains equipment properly
  • complies with H-E-B food safety and sanitation standards
  • complies with department and store operating procedures
  • records production and shrink to aid in production planning (bakery)
  • assists in baking, frying, and decorating (bakery)
  • culls bakery products for poor quality and expiration dates
  • takes care of service counter customers (deli)
  • uses ordering system applications (deli)
  • uses Fresh Production Planner (deli)
  • performs inventory management processes (deli)
  • prepares catering orders for customer pickup (deli)
  • performs sanitation and maintenance tasks for deli slicers (deli)
  • serves and packages prepared foods at customers’ request
  • educates customers on preparation and reheating instructions
  • prepackages condiments
  • cuts, slices, dices, chops food in preparation for chef
