Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in food service and/or cashiering preferred
  • Ability to use computers, scanners, copiers, and food preparation equipment
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to forty pounds
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and schedules
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness and sanitation
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to manage money transactions and accurate record keeping

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Considerable knowledge of child nutrition laws, policies, and procedures
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of Google Apps
  • Effective time management skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Ability to read, interpret, and administer recipes and instructions
  • Demonstrated food production skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to communicate clearly in various communication methods
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school staff, students, parents, and community
  • Experience in food service and/or cashiering is preferred

Job Duties

  • Prepare, cook and serve meals, salads, and a la-carte items according to standardized recipes
  • Keep accurate documentation of food preparation
  • Serve as a cashier to collect money and record sales using a computerized point of sale system
  • Follow procedures for exchange, collection of monies and assist in preparation of deposits
  • Provide leadership and manage the cafeteria in the absence of the CNS Manager
  • Complete all required records, reports, inventories, and vending procedures
  • Ensure cleanliness of kitchen area, equipment, and utensils according to sanitation codes
  • Perform various housekeeping duties including sweeping, mopping, and cleaning dining areas
  • Comply with Wake County Public Schools Child Nutrition Handbook policies and procedures
  • Provide effective communication and customer service
