Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Food Handler's Certification
  • must be able to read, write, and communicate in English
  • ability to understand food preparation and safety procedures
  • 1+ years in school food service preferred
  • able to perform physical demands of the job including prolonged standing and lifting moderate weights
  • able to work in environments with exposure to heat, humidity, noise, chemicals, and biological hazards
  • maintain emotional control under stress
  • follow safety protocols and emergency procedures

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Food Handler's Certification
  • must be able to read, write, and communicate in English
  • ability to understand food preparation and safety procedures
  • 1+ years in school food service (preferred)
  • such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate and acceptable

Job Duties

  • Assist the Head Cook in reviewing recipes to determine the quantities of ingredients needed to prepare menu items
  • plan cooking schedule in conjunction with supervisor to ensure that food will be ready at specified times
  • prepare washing, trimming, cooking, and seasoning of food items for each meal
  • measure and mix ingredients according to recipes
  • bake, roast, broil and steam meats, fish and other foods
  • observe and taste food being cooked and add ingredients as needed as per recipe specifications
  • adjust heat controls and timers on ovens, grills, etc., as required
  • prepare and direct distribution of according to menu combinations
  • maintain cooking area in a clean, neat and orderly manner
  • complete annual professional standard requirements
  • follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
  • perform other duties as assigned
