Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to read, write, speak English and perform simple math calculations
  • Valid CDL-A license with hazardous materials and twin/triple trailer endorsements
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record
  • Minimum 12 months tractor-trailer driving experience or relevant training
  • Ability to use handheld tablets
  • Good oral communication
  • Ability to follow instructions by radio or phone
  • Knowledge of vehicle safety and DOT regulations
  • Meet or exceed U.S. DOT medical standards
  • Pass drug and alcohol testing
  • Complete Old Dominion orientation and training
  • Minimum age 22
  • Ability to sit for up to 11 hours
  • Ability to stand and walk on various surfaces
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, squat, crouch, and climb
  • Ability to lift and carry freight up to 100 pounds and push/pull up to 500 pounds
  • Ability to reach for freight at various levels
  • Ability to install and remove tire chains
  • Ability to operate vehicle manual transmission and pedals
  • Attendance required

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL-A) with hazardous materials and twin/triple trailer endorsements
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record
  • Minimum 12 months previous tractor-trailer driving experience or graduation from a certified trucking school or completion of Old Dominion Truck Driver Training program
  • Ability to operate hand-held tablets
  • Good oral communication skills
  • Ability to follow instructions via two-way radio or phone
  • Working knowledge of vehicle safety and control systems
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations for safe driving, hours of service, and hazardous materials transportation
  • Ability to meet or exceed medical standards of U.S. DOT
  • Ability to pass required drug and alcohol tests
  • Satisfactory completion of orientation/training program by an Old Dominion qualified driver trainer
  • Minimum age of 22 years

Job Duties

  • Operate vehicle safely within DOT regulations that govern safe driving, hours of service, inspection, maintenance, and transportation of hazardous materials
  • Meet or exceed the medical standards of the U.S. Dept. of Transportation and satisfactorily pass a drug test and alcohol test
  • Load and unload freight on trailers using a motorized forklift, pallet jack or manually in compliance with state and federal DOT guidelines
  • Utilize Dock Yard Management System to consistently monitor freight shipment locations throughout the service center
  • Read and interpret shipping labels and related freight movement documentation
  • Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies
  • Be available for work to meet customer pickup and delivery schedules
