Job Requirements

  • Four years experience in surveying work including two years project management authority and one year supervisory or lead experience
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in surveying technology or related field
  • Oregon Professional Land Surveyor registration or ability to obtain within six months
  • valid Oregon driver’s license
  • preferred Oregon Water Rights Examiner certificate
  • ability to perform strenuous physical duties in varying weather
  • knowledge of Lane County Surveyor’s Office practices and procedures
  • proficiency with Trimble survey products and CAD software

Job Qualifications

  • Oregon Professional Land Surveyor registration or ability to obtain within six months
  • valid Oregon driver’s license
  • knowledge of Oregon statutes and professional survey standards
  • proficiency with manual, total station and GPS surveying equipment including Trimble products
  • skilled in use of CAD and specialized survey software
  • strong written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • ability to manage multiple projects and resources
  • experience with training and supervising staff
  • ability to read and write legal property descriptions
  • excellent public communication and teamwork skills

Job Duties

  • Establishes survey standards and procedures for Engineering Division project teams
  • monitors compliance with standards and procedures
  • as project manager, oversees and/or performs boundary surveys on City-owned properties and location surveys of public rights-of-way
  • manages City survey and right-of-way location records to ensure professional standards
  • writes and interprets legal property descriptions and resolves inaccuracies
  • maintains and expands horizontal and vertical control networks
  • reviews and approves land division plats for compliance
  • oversees survey assignments performed by Engineering Technicians
  • identifies and develops survey training programs and trains staff
  • utilizes computer software including CAD and survey data collection tools
  • represents Public Works Engineering division at public meetings and with other agencies
  • supervises assigned staff and coordinates multiple projects
  • ensures adherence to diversity and affirmative action plans
  • performs other duties as assigned
