Job Requirements

  • Possess a class A Commercial Driver's License with necessary endorsements
  • Have at least one year experience or completed relevant training
  • Maintain acceptable Motor Vehicle Record based on hiring standards
  • Comply with Department of Transportation regulatory requirements
  • Obtain Hazardous Materials endorsement within 120 days of offer acceptance
  • Pass Federal Motor Carrier regulations section 391 requirements
  • Meet Long Combination Vehicles Qualification and Certification Minimum Standards if applicable
  • Perform physical duties including lifting freight up to 100 pounds
  • Have basic math and communication skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete training
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment

Job Qualifications

  • Must possess a class A Commercial Driver's License with double/triple, hazardous materials and tank endorsements
  • Must have one year of experience within the most recent three years or successful completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course
  • Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record based on hiring standards
  • Must meet all Department of Transportation regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier regulations
  • Must meet Long Combination Vehicles Qualification and Certification Minimum Standards if operating in specified states
  • Ability to count and perform basic math with or without a calculator
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lift and carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds several times a week
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat and climb in and out of truck
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete required training
  • Ability to work independently and/or as a team member

Job Duties

  • Operate tractor-trailer combination including doubles and triples and/or straight trucks
  • Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment
  • Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies
  • Perform freight handling using motorized and manual equipment such as forklift, pallet jack and hand truck
  • Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps and rope
  • Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary
  • Verify and complete required documentation and reports
  • Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures
  • Collect cash or checks for freight charges and maintain required documentation
  • Follow dispatch instructions and communicate with dispatch regarding delays, arrivals and equipment problems
  • Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs and solicit additional business
  • Demonstrate internal and external customer service
  • Ask for additional business from customers and provide leads to sales for potential new opportunities
  • May be required to perform chaining of vehicle tires
  • May perform job duties of a road driver or dock employee when necessary
  • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations and company policies
  • Perform other duties as required
