Job Requirements

  • Must possess a class A commercial driver's license with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements
  • must have minimum of one year driving experience within the last three years or completed driver development course
  • must have an acceptable motor vehicle record
  • must meet all Department of Transportation regulatory requirements
  • must obtain hazardous materials endorsement within 120 days of hire
  • must be physically capable of lifting heavy freight up to 100 pounds regularly
  • must be able to perform job duties involving various physical activities such as sitting, bending, climbing
  • must adhere to company policies and comply with all applicable laws and regulations
  • must be able to communicate effectively
  • must have the ability to perform basic math
  • must be flexible to work varied hours and provide excellent customer service
  • must pass necessary safety inspections and documentation requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Possess a class A commercial driver's license (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements
  • have one year of experience within the last three years or successful FedEx Freight Driver Development Course completion
  • hold an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record based on hiring standards
  • meet Department of Transportation regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier regulations
  • meet Long Combination Vehicles qualification and certification standards if operating in specified states
  • basic math and ability to count accurately
  • basic written and verbal communication skills
  • ability to lift and carry hand freight up to 100 pounds several times a week
  • ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, and climb in and out of trucks
  • ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • ability to follow instructions and complete required training

Job Duties

  • Operate tractor-trailer combinations including doubles and triples where applicable and/or straight trucks
  • perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment
  • hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from tractor and/or trailer
  • perform freight handling using motorized and manual equipment including forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck
  • secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope
  • recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary
  • verify and complete required documentation and reports
  • comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures
  • collect cash or checks for freight charges and maintain documentation
  • follow dispatch instructions and communicate with dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, and equipment problems
  • communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs and solicit additional business
  • demonstrate internal and external customer service
  • ask for additional business from customers and provide sales leads
  • perform chaining of vehicle tires as required
  • perform duties of road driver or dock employee when necessary
  • comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies
  • perform other duties as assigned
