Job Description
The Children and Family Services Department is dedicated to providing comprehensive and supportive childcare services that foster growth, learning, and development in children. This department operates a before and/or after school Childcare Program designed to create a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for children of various ages and abilities. Job Requirements
- Possess and maintain a valid California Driver's license
- Remain insurable at the standard insurance market rate
- Provide current DMV report
- Possess valid First Aid and CPR certificates
- Pass criminal justice fingerprint clearance
- Negative pre-employment drug screen test
- Negative TB test results
- Pass the District's adopted Proficiency Examination
- Two years of experience in providing childcare, preschool services and/or experience working with children in an educational setting
- Completion of six (6) units of Early Childhood Education or Child Development
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of formal or informal education sufficient to assure the ability to read, write and communicate in English at the level required for successful job performance
- Possess and maintain valid First Aid and CPR certificates
- Pass the District proficiency examination to comply with No Child Left Behind (NCLB)
- Knowledge of general concepts of child growth and development and child behavioral characteristics
- Knowledge of interpersonal and group dynamics
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to demonstrate understanding, patient, warm, and receptive attitude toward children
- Ability to supervise children of varying ages and abilities
Job Duties
- Assist in designing and supervising activities and projects which appeal to children and contribute to their learning
- Maintain appropriate learning environment and a healthy and motivating physical learning experience
- Confer with parents and staff on a regular basis
- Use materials suitable for instruction of children with wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturities
- Provide appropriate and safe climate to establish and reinforce acceptable pupil behavior, attitudes, and social skills
- Supervise children in the program on a daily basis
- Assist in planning, providing, and clean up of nutritious snacks
