Job Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities required for the position
  • Ability to lift moderately heavy objects
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time
  • Dexterity to operate kitchen equipment
  • Ability to perform simple math functions
  • Ability to follow sanitation and safety protocols
  • Willingness to work in a school cafeteria or kitchen environment
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Experience or training in food preparation or food service preferred
  • Knowledge of sanitation and safety procedures related to cooking and serving food
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment such as slicers, choppers, mixers, steamers, fryers, dishwashers, warmers, and ovens
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Basic math skills to handle money and make change
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others
  • Ability to learn and adhere to health and safety regulations

Job Duties

  • Prepare, wash and cut vegetables, fruits and other foods for cooking
  • Set up serving area
  • serve food to students, faculty and other personnel according to established schedules
  • work cooperatively to assure that necessary food is available for service
  • Maintain work areas and serving areas in a sanitary manner
  • clean serving counter, tables, benches, food containers and other equipment
  • wash pots and pans, utensils and other serving equipment
  • store kitchen equipment
  • Operate a variety of standard kitchen equipment including slicer, chopper, mixer, steamer, fryer, dishwasher, warmer, oven and others
  • Weigh and measure portions for serving
  • count number of items on hand and number sold
  • Sell lunch tickets and food items as assigned
  • collect monies, make change and maintain simple records
  • Prepare or assist in preparing salads, desserts, sandwiches and beverages as assigned
  • Pack food for transport to satellite schools as assigned
  • Assist other food service personnel as assigned
  • Perform related duties as assigned
