Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must pass Child Care Tier 1 background investigation
  • Must complete favorable pre-employment physical including lifting requirements
  • Must provide evidence of current immunizations including annual influenza vaccination
  • Must complete assigned training including Food Handlers certification within specified timeframe
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English
  • Must comply with Air Force and DoD policies
  • Must pass employment verification checks (E-Verify)
  • Must be able to provide valid REAL ID or authorized identity documents for installation access
  • Must register for Selective Service if applicable
  • Must be U.S. citizen or eligible national
  • Ability to work in a bargaining unit
  • Must complete probationary period if required

Job Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English orally and in writing
  • No previous experience required for entry level
  • Six months experience equivalent to CY-01 level working with children or youth and completion of 3 Air Force modules plus orientation training for intermediate level
  • 18 months experience in childcare or youth program or completion of DoD approved competency-training courses for target level
  • Possession of child development associate credential, military school age credential, or other nationally recognized youth development credential for target level
  • Associate degree with relevant coursework or bachelor's degree with 24 credit hours in related fields for target level
  • Education substitution allowed with transcripts for qualifying
  • Must meet eligibility and background requirements
  • Must be able to provide proof of eligibility and meet selective service registration if applicable
  • Must complete required trainings including Food Handlers certification.

Job Duties

  • Serve as a Child and Youth Program Assistant accountable for safety and whereabouts of children aged 6 weeks to 18 years
  • Promote positive child and youth interactions and establish a nurturing environment
  • Prepare and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials
  • Interact professionally with staff members, parents, supervisors, and volunteers
  • Supervise children during daily activities, field trips, outings, and special events
  • Promote safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices
  • Care for special needs children as directed
  • Notify supervisors of health, fire, and safety concerns
  • Arrange and serve snacks and meals as appropriate
  • Observe and report signs of illness, abuse, or neglect
  • Note special parental instructions and ensure children depart with authorized persons
  • Assist in achieving DoD certification and national accreditation
  • Ensure compliance with Air Force Child and Youth Programs policies
  • Assist in providing and leading planned activities
  • Help children with special projects, homework, and life skills
  • Perform simple routine tasks with step-by-step instructions
  • Use prepared curriculum and assist with supply needs
  • Create adult-made games and play materials
  • Attend to physical needs of children
  • Maintain program participation data and reports
  • Participate in program evaluations
  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and conducting activities including group and individual sessions
  • Participate in conferences with parents and staff
  • Review and implement age-appropriate schedules and plans
  • Inventory equipment and recommend replenishment
  • Secure supplies and facilities
  • Develop and implement schedules and plans
  • Demonstrate and facilitate planned and spontaneous activities
  • Brief other employees and parents.
