Job Description

The Child and Youth Program (CYP) Assistants Multi-Level position offers an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic and impactful environment dedicated to the development and well-being of children and youth. This position operates within the Department of the Navy and supports programs that are designed to engage children and youth actively while ensuring they are well-cared for and safe throughout their participation in CYP activities. Job Requirements

  • must be at least 18 years of age
  • must have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • six months of experience working with children or youth in a child and youth setting for Intermediate Level
  • one year of experience working with children or youth in a child and youth setting for Target Level
  • completion of Navy Entry Level training or equivalent for Intermediate Level
  • completion of Department of Defense standardized training or valid CDA or MSA credential or minimum two-year degree in Early Childhood Education or related field for Target Level
  • must provide a copy of educational transcripts or diploma when applying

Job Qualifications

  • ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
  • ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • ability to complete all Department of the Navy training requirements within the specified timeframe
  • ability to promote and foster effective working relationships with children, youth, and coworkers
  • ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team
  • knowledge of basic child and youth development principles
  • ability to implement developmentally appropriate care and education
  • ability to interpret curriculum or activity plans
  • skill in verbal communication to provide program information and explain procedures
  • completion of Navy Entry Level training or equivalent
  • possession of valid Child Development Associate credential or Military School-Age credential or relevant two-year degree for Target Level

Job Duties

  • work directly with children and youth, keeping them actively engaged, well-cared for, and safe while participating in the CYP
  • help children develop social skills such as making friends and conflict resolution
  • encourage healthy choices including nutritional snacks and appropriate recreational activities
  • build self-help and school readiness skills
  • explore and support children in engaging with their environment
  • follow written and verbal instructions for activity implementation
  • promote effective working relationships with children, youth, and coworkers
