Commander Navy Installation Command under Commander, Navy Region Northwest is a key operational division responsible for overseeing naval base activities and ensuring seamless maritime operations in the Northwestern United States. This command manages several key naval stations, including NAVBASE Kitsap Silverdale, CNI Navmag Indian Island, Naval Station Everett, and several other critical installations. Job Requirements

  • Must be a current permanent employee of authorized UICs including 68742, 32416, 68436, 61066, 68967
  • Required to hold current first class pilot license as issued by the Coast Guard for designated waters
  • Required to hold current Masters license for vessels of 1600 tons or more with unlimited radar observer
  • Demonstrate ability to perform duties with less than normal supervision
  • Knowledge and skill necessary to pilot vessels safely into port
  • Ability to communicate effectively with naval officials and crew
  • Capable of advising on vessel movement under weather and channel conditions

Job Qualifications

  • Hold current first class pilot license for vessels of any gross tons issued by Coast Guard covering Strait of Juan de Fuca and Puget Sound areas
  • Possess current Masters license for steam or motor vessels of 1600 tons or more with unlimited radar observer
  • Proven ability to operate vessels with minimal supervision
  • Skilled in directing tugboat operations and ship berthing
  • Strong knowledge of maritime weather impact on vessel movement
  • Experience advising naval officials and ship captains
  • Knowledge of naval base operations and maritime safety protocols

Job Duties

  • Pilot ships coming in from sea and guiding them to berths long side docks
  • Direct tugs to appropriate stations and assign the number of lines for tying up
  • Advise on ship movements under various weather conditions
  • Counsel naval station officials and ship captains about channel and berth suitability for vessels of varying sizes
  • Work independently under general supervision subject to occasional inspection
  • Ensure compliance with all maritime safety regulations during pilotage
  • Coordinate with relevant naval departments for smooth vessel operations
