Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • previous experience in a restaurant or hospitality environment preferred but not required
  • ability to stand for extended periods
  • ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • strong communication skills
  • ability to follow recipes and food safety guidelines
  • physical ability to lift and move kitchen equipment and supplies
  • positive attitude and team-oriented mindset

Job Duties

  • Inspect food preparation and serving areas to ensure safe and sanitary food-handling practices
  • turn or stir foods to ensure even cooking
  • season and cook food according to recipes or judgment
  • observe and test foods to determine if cooked sufficiently using taste, smell, or utensils
  • weigh, measure, and mix ingredients using kitchen utensils and equipment
  • portion, arrange, and garnish food
  • regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, and roasters
  • substitute or assist other cooks during emergencies or rush periods
  • bake, roast, broil, and steam foods
  • wash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables
  • prep menu items
  • estimate expected food consumption and requisition or purchase supplies
  • carve and trim meats for service
  • prepare sauces
