Job Requirements
- trauma informed and able to maintain a trauma informed environment
- demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of clients in crisis
- high school diploma or equivalent
- valid New York State driver's license
- food handling license and must obtain NYC Food Protection Certificate within six months
- must obtain S95 and F-07 fire safety certification within three months
- flexibility within schedule preferred
- at least five years of professional kitchen experience preferred
- ability to plan, budget, purchase and prepare food for 12 or more people
- ability to read and follow standardized recipes
- strong knowledge of proper food handling procedures
- general computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- good oral and written communication skills
- proven skills in cleaning and household maintenance
- ability to support, nurture and discipline children in a structured environment evidenced by one year of professional childcare experience
- experience working with diverse communities and understanding multicultural issues

Job Duties
- Plan all breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks for residents and staff in the Healing Home program at least 4 weeks in advance, following all nutritional guidelines
- manage and administer the household budget for food purchases
- store all food in compliance with government standards and maintain inventory records
- collaborate with program staff to ensure timely meal preparation
- maintain accurate food inventories and conduct weekly food inspections and shopping
- properly store food items at appropriate temperatures and check quantity and quality of received products
- rotate stock items and manage pantry checkout system
- restock kitchen for subsequent shifts
- ensure food preparation areas and kitchen are cleaned and sanitized at the end of shifts
- monitor sanitation practices and ensure compliance with standards
- supervise and coordinate cooking activities with clients and staff to improve culinary skills
- model positive interactions with children, families, and staff
- conduct monthly food inspections and complete required documentation
- ensure all youth are aware of kitchen safety protocols
- provide individualized care and supervision of each resident
- model positive behaviors and implement core values
- use strength-based intervention, communication, and programming
- assess and instruct independent living skills involving cooking
- provide a therapeutic and socializing environment
- create a warm, caring, home-like setting
- participate in service planning and review
- deliver services according to goals and objectives
- employ trauma-sensitive practices
- provide crisis intervention and behavior management
- report incidents and complete paperwork promptly
- assist in household duties including cleaning, shopping, meal planning and preparation
- train and supervise children in life skill development
- perform other duties as assigned
