Job Requirements
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Have a degree in culinary arts or equivalent culinary experience
- Possess 1-2 years of kitchen operations experience
- Hold a valid Food Manager Certification
- Demonstrate excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Be passionate about community engagement and customer experiences
- Be able to communicate verbally and work cooperatively
- Be physically capable of standing for long periods and performing manual tasks
- Have knowledge of food safety and sanitation
- Be flexible to work nights, weekends, and holidays
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance
- Be able to operate computer and POS systems
- Comply with all store policies and local regulations.
Job Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of employment
- Degree in culinary arts preferred but extensive culinary experience and technical proficiency considered
- 1-2 years of kitchen operations experience
- Valid Food Manager Certification
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
- Passion for community engagement and exceptional customer service
- Ability to communicate verbally and work cooperatively with others
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to follow recipes and culinary game plans consistently
- Commitment to company policies and procedures
- Ability to operate POS and computer systems proficiently.
Job Duties
- Represent Sur La Table’s brand and culture by creating memorable educational experiences that inspire repeat visits and customer loyalty
- Deliver an exceptional in-store culinary experience focused on pastry and baking classes following provided recipes and game plans
- Communicate technical concepts and advanced pastry skills clearly and encouragingly
- Maintain expertise by staying current on products and engaging in training
- Drive sales by upholding kitchen standards, encouraging second class sign-ups, and promoting retail items
- Deliver class revenue goals by ensuring high enrollment and positive guest feedback
- Assist in class setup and breakdown including prepping ingredients and cleaning workstations
- Clean and sanitize dishes and equipment promptly
- Assist with restocking and maintaining kitchen supplies
- Ensure compliance with food safety standards and sanitation regulations
- Properly handle all tools, ingredients, and kitchen equipment
- Maintain accurate inventory levels and control culinary expenses
- May handle alcohol in compliance with regulations
- Ensure store safety and cleanliness
- Adhere to wage and hour laws and accurately record time worked
- Model consistent adherence to Sur La Table policies and SOPs
- Communicate verbally and work cooperatively with associates and customers
- Remain standing for up to 4 hours and move about store directing customers
- Perceive and differentiate flavors or odors
- Perform physical activities such as grabbing, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching
- Use hands to chop, whisk, slice, stir, and demonstrate techniques
- Lift and move merchandise weighing up to 50 lbs
- Ascend/descend ladders
- Operate a computer, POS system, and related equipment
- Work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance with schedule flexibility
- Work in variable kitchen environment with temperature variations and allergens.
