Job Duties

  • prepare a variety of menu items from scratch for cafeteria and catering including soups, roasts, casseroles, sauces, vegetables, salads, sandwiches, and bakery items
  • use scratch cooking and baking techniques such as roasting, sauteing, grilling, steaming, proofing, and baking
  • improve quality and wellness of foods by researching and testing menu items that fit a wellness profile
  • practice safe food handling, ergonomic, and personal safety techniques
  • maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area including food storage and preparation areas
  • operate and clean kitchen equipment according to safety guidelines
  • support menu management by following recipes, providing feedback, monitoring HACCP logs, inventorying supplies, and assessing leftovers
  • communicate with customers and servers regarding menu and food preparation
  • cover responsibilities of Chef Team Leader when absent
