Job Requirements
- Minimum 10 years culinary experience in high-end settings
- Prior experience as lead chef or sous chef
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Ability to mentor and train junior staff patiently
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Knowledge of NYC Food Standards
- Ability to multitask and perform well under pressure
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and TOAST software
- Flexibility to work during peak event seasons and large event schedules
- Commitment to working within a nonprofit social enterprise and diverse team environment
Job Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years high-end culinary experience
- Passionate about food and mission of City Beet Kitchens
- Previous Lead Chef and/or Sous Chef experience
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work calm under pressure and solve problems
- Patient demeanor for training interns and early career staff
- Ability to mentor effectively
- Creative in menu design
- Team player with high communication skills
- Experience in high volume restaurant or catering
- Thorough understanding of NYC Food Standards
- Strong multitasking ability
- Responsive to team and customers
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and TOAST
- Familiar with inventory management programs is a plus
- Schedule flexibility for large events and busy seasons
Job Duties
- Managing a commercial kitchen including staff, product, inventory
- Collaborating and problem solving with Executive Director of City Beet Kitchens, Director of Events, and Senior Events Manager to enhance culinary experiences
- Mentoring and motivating interns and early career cooks
- Leading and motivating team members
- Understanding City Beet Kitchens' mission and working with diverse individuals
- Ensuring high quality of food
- Budgeting, balancing, and maintaining low food cost
- Managing and optimizing vendor relationships and pricing
- Leading cook on hot line and supervising staff on other stations
- Maintaining flexible and responsive attitude towards customers' needs
- Creating menus, seasonal specials, testing and developing recipes
- Staying informed about food and industry trends
- Ordering produce and managing invoices
- Scheduling staff and maintaining NYC Health Department standards
- Creating and updating recipe book
- Adapting to non-traditional kitchen environments
